Things to do - courses

Here we list Crafts and Courses you can undertake whilst you visit the town. Some are held over weekends, while others run for a number of weeks. The courses range from Carnival Arts, to painting, knitting, patchwork, pottery and jewellery making and are either held at local business premises or in conjunction with hotels. So if you are looking to update your skills or learn a new one, check back and see what's on offer.
 

Craft workshops

Beginners patchwork classes at Cloth and Comfort. . Cloth and comfort offer one-to-one or small group classes for people interested in learning the craft of patchworking. Classes can be held any day of the week except Sundays. For further information call in and speak to Heidi at

Painted Patchwork @ The Park Centre, High Park Road. A sewing and textile workshop which will incorporate patchwork and fabric painting. Develop skills and techniques and produce various items to your own design and ideas. Experiment with 3-D textiles. This is a follow on course, but new people are most welcome. Suitable for all levels.
Starts Tuesday 2nd June - Tuesday 7th July for 6 sessions. Time 10am - 1pm. Costs £24.00 or concessions £12.00.

Carnival Arts

The Carnival Learning Centre at Westridge in Ryde runs a variety of courses covering all aspects of Carnival Arts, from basic skills, to event management, cultural diversity and photography. Most of the courses are for adults, but they do offer some family and young person courses. Below is a list of what is currently being offered.

Carnival Skills:

Festive Flags in the Style of Angus Watt - Create large sewn and appliqué flags for processional use or site decoration.
Tuesdays 9.30am to 12.30am Starts 2nd June for 6 sessions. Costs £24 or concessions £12

Fit for the road - Fun fitness dance class to funky Latino beats. Join in at your own pace.
Wednesdays 6.30pm - 7.30 pm - Starts 3rd June for 6 sessions Costs £4 or concessions £2 weekly.

Dance and Presentation Skills for Large Costumes Masterclass - Balance, choreography and character development with Tony Isles from Luton's Rampage Carnival Club.
Friday 26th June 10.30am to 2pm. Costs £12 or concessions £6

Digital Photography - Develop your own photography and use Adobe Photoshop to explore creative techniques to produce, edit and present your photographs. Do bring your camera along with you.
Wednesdays 9.30am to 12 noon. Starts 3rd June for 8 sessions. Cost £32 0r concessions £16.00
Optional session @ The Arts Parade Saturday 11th July 12 noon to 3pm.
