Moving to Ryde

An Optimistic Outlook

Ryde surely must be one of the best places on the Island for both leisure and business.

Having been lucky enough to have spent most of my school and work life in Ryde – latterly of course at Seafields Estates in a prime Union Street position - I certainly have noticed the great changes that have taken place within the town including the opening of increasingly smart shops, restaurants and bars.

Being passionate about property and very patriotic about the Island, it is so easy to be enthusiastic about what we at Seafields have to offer potential purchasers and tenants within the area. There are numerous reasons I believe Ryde – aptly named ‘The Gateway to the Island ’ and being a blend of modern architecture and old fashioned charm – is so popular with both regular and new visitors.

In my opinion, with the short crossing across the Solent via the Fast Cat or Hovercraft – or via the Portsmouth to Fishbourne car ferry – Ryde is so convenient for those wishing to escape the hustle and bustle of mainland life in order to relax by the seaside in a town which offers so much.

In spite of so much pessimism over the past year about the economy, poor market conditions and a general negative outlook, we have certainly seen an increase in the amount of potential purchasers seeking second homes on the Island (perhaps preferring to put their money into property during the current economic climate) – with Ryde seeming to top many buyers’ ‘criteria list’.This, apart from the geographical aspect, is due to many other factors –  e.g. the marina and magnificent long stretch of sandy beaches (perfect for the avid sailors/wind and kitesurfers) – as well as other facilities for the energetic – i.e. swimming, bowling, bowls, tennis, ice skating, golf, rowing and walking. However, for those here to relax, there is also an array of shops, bistros, restaurants and bars! During the height of the summer, there is also the superbly organised carnival – a spectacular event that must be seen to be believed – as well as the regatta in which all ages can partake!

Enquiries have also greatly increased by those seeking a more permanent home – with mainland commuting and the good choice of Ryde private school and other highly reputable local primary, secondary and high schools naturally being of great importance to families.

All in all, a thriving town by the sea – for the young and not so young, whether on a permanent or temporary basis!
